The Dating Game Part I

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By Jaci Rae Relationshipfor some that word stirs up fears of commitment and for others it conjures up the idea of ever lasting love. For many on the dating scene ever lasting love is their ultimate goal but how do you find someone to go on a date with and once you do how do you go from date to relationship? While the person youre dating may be looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right, they may not be looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right now, meaning pull in the reins and go a little slower. But lets start at the beginning instead of jumping straight to the finish line. Lets get back to the basics. To get back to basics, lets start with a history lesson. Dating can be a scene right out of your High School memory banks. Many are haunted by memories of their first date and the nervous tension that resulted from the anticipation of it: Did I pick the correct outfit? Will I smell good to them? Is my breath okay? What will I say during those awkward moments of silence? Things havent changed that much since High School. Often the same questions come to mind and you will still get that same sense of nervous anticipation before embarking on a first date with someone. Dating can be a very intimidating time to even the most experienced and savvy dater. Recently I asked both men and women who dated frequently (3-4 times a week on average) if they still got first date jitters. The same answer echoed through 93% and that was a resounding, Yes! Amazingly enough, even those people who seemed confident and poised; those who seemed to have an endless amount of dating potential as well as a line of prospective suitors, still got first date jitters. So for those singles that still have troubling memories of their past dating experiences, how do you jump into the dating pool and begin to swim again? Unlike swimming in a pool filled with water, dont dive into the deep end of the dating pool first even if you remember how to swim. There may be sharks lurking waiting to attack. Its always best if you start in the shallow end of the pool first. Start out small by meeting people in groups at functions until you feel comfortable enough to seek out a dating partner. After that hurdle is crossed then by all means dive right in to the dating pool! Where can you find a dating pool in your area? Because many people have a select group of friends, they tend to see the same people at all of the functions, B-B-Qs, parties and other events. Same faces with the same stories that become all too familiar. So where do you meet compatible and available singles? Here are a few suggestions: 1. Find charity events in your area and attend them. 2. Look in your local paper for events that singles would go to. Social functions, chess cafs, ice cream socials, etc. 3. Find sporting clubs (the kind of clubs that actually have participation such as water or snow skiing trips.) 4. Take a specialty courses at a junior college or community center. 5. Go to your local coffee caf and sit on the comfortable chairs that are in the round to make conversation more likely. 6. Your local grocery store can be a buffet of single people. There are specific times and ways to approach people that I talk about that in my book, but dont have the space here. Use your best judgment. 7. Check out reputable online dating services (be careful, more later). If youre nervous, as most of us are, prepare for your first encounter just as you would when vying for a promotion at work. Practice ahead of time! Make up a little 3×5 flash card set with subjects you are comfortable talking about or questions that are conversation initiators (forget about the weather, thats a dried up subject). Here are a few you can use that are sure to spark some interest: 1. Read or watch the news ahead of time and discuss current events. Stick to positive uplifting ones and stay away from politics and religion. Example: Recently in the news there was a story about an autistic boy whose lifetime dream was to play basketball. To be close to the sport he did all the dirty jobs for both the boys and girls teams at his school. The last game of the season he was allowed on the court and scored a slam dunk. 2. Talk about your family (positively). Example: I have two brothers and one sister. Growing up we 3. Liven up the conversation with topics of any recent travels. Example: Recently I traveled to Washington State to see the Fish Market in Seattle. Talk about your experiences there and what you saw. 4. Ask about their career and how they happened upon it. Example: What do you do for a living? What made you decide on that career path? Did you go to school for your career choice? 5. Ask about their family (if they shy away, you need to also). Example: Do you have brothers or sisters? Does your family live close? These are just a few topics. If you cant think of any yourself pour over the Internet for resources on topics of conversation. While I gave you a few suggestions above, there are many more I am sure you can come up with. Because online dating has become the norm for meeting people I want to outline a few tips for using online dating services. When you join an online dating service you have much the same feeling of anticipation and excitement as you do when you are about to go on a blind date. The prospect of having people approve of you and possibly accept you as someone they want to have around them is exhilarating. But how do you create a powerful and compelling online dating profile? Youve heard that honesty is the best policyIt is. Be honest. The person youre trying to attract will eventually agree to meet you if you have written an eye catching profile. Eventually the real you will pop out. You dont want to get dumped once your feelings are involved. Statistics show that people can only keep up a faade of pretending to be something other than they are for approximately 3-6 months (there have been cases of years but thats not the norm). If you want to find Mr. / Mrs. Right, adhere to the honesty policy and represent yourself exactly as you are and not want you want others to perceive you. Be clever and funny in your profile but be sincere. (Think of the online dating profile as if you were actually speaking to them in person for the first time.) If youre funny, then show it in your writing. Dont tell someone how funny you are, e.g. Im funny and have a great sense of humor. That wont make them a believer. Here is an example of something funny and clever. Football fans will enjoy this one. (This is not for your profile but used as an example of funny lines I have used when talking to an audience.): If your partner is more concerned about that 3rd and 1 on television, than the 4th and 23 in your own living room, then you might be another statistic on the playing field of love. Tell them to not try for a 58 yard field goal, go for six instead. Do you see what Im writing about? Word pictures are very powerful tools that help draw the reader in and help to reveal who you are and what youre about. Another important aspect of your online dating profile is pictures. Show them a picture of you. A picture speaks volumes about who you are. If you say you are sporty but have a picture of you sitting on a couch, what does that say? Use a picture of you on a bike, in a race, waterskiing, etc. Dont use a High School picture if you are in your 20s or older. Use a recent picture. They will find out what you look like when they meet you. Why draw someone in and then have them ditch you if you dont look the same? The eyes reveal a lot in a picture. If they sparkle with whats called a catch light, the viewer will be more drawn to you. (A catch light is the little light that shows up on the pupil). If your eyes look suave, the viewer will probably click you away. Make sure to do a spelling and grammar check before you post to an online dating site. Words that are spelt incorrectly and bad punctuation can tune a lot of people out and then they will click you off. A few last words of advice: Forget about negativity in your profile and dont talk about ex-relationships. That will give the reader a sense that you are a serial dater and perhaps a heartbreaker. Avoid phrases like: I dont play games.; I love long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and romantic nights by the fire. You can show them that when you meet them. Every person I have surveyed in the past has said that lines such as the above are red flags and a sign that he/she is a player. Online dating can be fun, exciting and successful, but be safe and enjoy the process. When you finally connect with someone on an online dating site, agree to meet at a coffee shop during the day. Never go off in their car no matter how safe they seem, always take yours. Low-Carb Diets - The Pros and Cons

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

By Jessica Wassenberg You would have heard a lot about low-carb diets theyve become hugely popular over the last few years. So much so that many food companies now offer low-carb alternatives in the supermarket, and fast-food chains like McDonalds and Subway offer low-carb alternatives. The idea behind a low-carb diet is to change your body chemistry. By restricting your carbohydrate intake, your body is forced to turn to your fat stores for energy. This induces a state called ketosis, so called because the breakdown of fat releases molecules called ketones into your bloodstream, which you then excrete in your urine. In fact, if you’re really serious about it, you can buy pH strips to measure the amount of ketones present in your urine! However, restricting carbohydrate intake for any length of time has some risks, and should only be done under the supervision of a health care professional. A low-carb diet should not be seen as a long-term diet - it is too restricted in calories and nutrients to be healthy in the long term. Not to mention that you miss out on vital food types like grains, pasta, and breads. Also to be considered is the effect that low-carb diets have on your muscles. What happens is this: when your body needs energy, it first turns to the stores of glycogen (made from the glucose - carbohydrate - that you eat) in the liver. After a few hours, this runs out, and the body turns to the glycogen stored in your muscles. Now, muscle glycogen is heavy, because one molecule of glycogen is stored with three molecules of water. So, when your body burns up the glycogen, the water is excreted. This is what causes the big drop in weight that you may experience during the beginning of a low-carb diet - most of what you are losing is muscle and water, not fat! Now, if you like to work out regularly, you’ll face a big problem on a low-carb diet. You will quickly find that you run out of energy and can’t exercise. That is because your muscles haven’t been able to replenish their store of glycogen, because you haven’t eaten enough carbs for them to do so! Therefore, low-carb diets aren’t a good choice for athletes and active people, though if you’re pretty sedentary they can be okay for a short time. I know a few people who have lost quite a bit of weight on a low-carb diet - with a few side effects. One woman of about 50 did really well, but found that after a few weeks she needed to increase her intake of carbs because she was getting the shakes from low blood sugar. A man, around his mid-fifties, also lost a good deal of weight, but after two months his energy levels were extremely low, and his low-carb diet combined with a low iron level left him feeling pretty wiped out! Despite their risks, low-carb diets can be a really useful way to kick-start your weight loss and some diabetics have found that low-carb diets can be a great way to keep their blood sugar levels under control. Just make sure you get good guidance from a book or health care professional before you start eating low-carb! Jessica Wassenberg. Get an Unsecured Personal Loan and Keep Your Home Safe

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mary_Wise]Mary Wise Unsecured Personal Loans If your home is the only asset that you have, it is understandable that you are not willing to put it at risk. But if you havent put aside enough money into your savings account for extraordinary expenses, youll sooner or later need some sort of financial assistance. Requirements When this happens, an unsecured personal loan will be the answer to your financial difficulties. An unsecured personal loan is not guaranteed by any asset. In fact, your credit score and history, income and overall outstanding debt will be the only things taken into account when the lender has to decide whether to approve your loan or not. Higher Risk, Higher Interest Rate The lack of collateral turns this kind of loans into a higher risk financial transaction for the lender and thus, the interest rate charged will be slightly higher than that of a secured personal loan. Moreover, if your credit situation is not that good, you may have to face even higher interest rates. No Risk of Repossession So what is the benefit of an unsecured personal loan? Since there is no collateral, there is no risk of repossession and the lender will probably find it very difficult to recover his money if you default on the loan monthly payments. Your home will remain safe for the time being. Nevertheless, you should know that though there is no collateral, the lender can still take legal action against you in order to recover his money. He wont probably resort to this way since its rather expensive and given there is no security the process would take too long. Even if the lender decides to start preparing to take legal measures and the harassing calls start, the lack of collateral gives you enough time to figure out how to retake your monthly payments or negotiate with your creditor a more flexible repayment program. Reprogramming the loan and even condoning part of the debt will always be cheaper for the lender than paying costly legal fees. Fast Loan Application Resolution Also, as an additional benefit, the unsecured loan application process is faster because there is not much to be checked. The lender will pull your credit report, do his math and notify you of the approval or decline of your loan application. The loan closure is usually achieved in less than 72 business hours as opposed to secured loans that can take weeks or even months. Unsecured Loans are More Flexible Another advantage of unsecured personal loans is that the loan repayment programs are stretched and the lender will be able to tailor the loan length and monthly payments to your needs. Youll also be able to extend the loan length or renew it if you need to as long as you meet the lenders requirements for those operations. Marriage - Sharing The Load

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By Michael Russell There are so many stereotypes in marriage. Probably the worst one is that the man goes out and works and the woman stays home, gets pregnant, takes care of the kids, cooks, cleans and pleases her husband when he demands it. Well, if ever there was a bigger load of bunk in this world. The truth is, especially in today’s marriages, those days, if they ever existed, are long gone. It’s a new world with new rules. And if you want your marriage to succeed you better get used to those rules, guys and gals. Otherwise, you’re going to be standing in front of a divorce judge before you can say Bob’s your uncle. For starters, because of the state of today’s economy, women really can’t afford to stay home anymore unless her husband has a really incredible job. That is a very small percentage of the population. The reality is that most families these days are two income families. Get used to it. Things are not likely to change soon. So what exactly does that mean? Well, for one thing, it means the woman doesn’t get to lounge around at home anymore doing those fun things like cleaning and laundry. When 6 PM rolls around, most likely both she and her husband are coming home from work. Things that normally got done around the house while the husband was at work aren’t done anymore. It’s a whole new world, which means there are new rules. At least there should be. What new rules you ask? Let’s start with doing the dishes after your wife makes a hot meal. Maybe it’s time you guys starting helping out. Maybe share the chore. Wife washes, husband dries. Maybe alternate. For that matter, why not have your husband cook for you once in a while? Okay, if he’s a lousy cook scratch that idea. Laundry. Unless your husband is color blind, which many men are, there is no reason why he can’t do the laundry once in a while. It might do him some good to learn things like that. Speaking of learning, usually in a home, either the husband or the wife pays the bills every month. It may not be such a bad idea if both of you learned how to do this if for no other reason than if God forbid something happens to one of you, you don’t have to worry about PSE&G turning off your power or GM repossessing your vehicle. The truth is, when it comes to doing just about anything that requires some kind of skill, it really is a good idea for both the husband and wife to know how to do them. Nobody knows about life and death or even illness. A debilitating illness like MS or Alzheimer’s can make it so that one of the partners is no longer able to function. When that happens, the other is left to do everything. If they’ve had no practice doing the various chores around the house, this can be a real culture shock as well as a terrible hardship. So do yourself a favor guys. Learn how to take out the trash. It’s not that hard. Happy Birthday Ben Franklin!

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By Terry Weber Our old Uncle Ben Franklin was born on January 17th, 1706. Since the celebration of his 300th birthday will soon be upon us (this coming January), the people of Philadelphia are preparing a large birthday celebration in his honor. Therefore, I thought youd like to know what Uncle Ben wrote to us about prayer in his autobiography. Here is his legacy to us: and conceiving God to be the fountain of Wisdom, I thought it right and necessary to solicit His assistance for obtaining it; to this end, I formed the following prayer which was prefixed to my tables of (self) examination for daily use: Oh powerful Goodness! Bountiful Father! Merciful Guide! Increase in me that wisdom which discovers my truest interest. Strengthen my resolutions to perform what that wisdom dictates. Accept my kind offices to Thy other children as the only return in my power to thank You for Thy continual favors to me. Ben Franklin also mentioned in his autobiography, that he said this very same prayer every day for fifty years! I wonder if we have the wisdom to know our truest interest? I wonder, do we perform enough kind offices to Gods other children? In his own way, Ben has given us a gift, an inheritance, and a truly inspiring birthday gift, on the day when we will again say to him: Happy Birthday Ben Franklin! P.S. When you write your autobiography, will you be able to tell your readers about the prayer you prayed every day - for fifty years or more? What will that prayer be? Note:The above is an excerpt from my book: Anchors Of Faith,by Terrance L. Weber, available on my website: http://craftyones.net/originalsbyweber Terry L. Butt-Fried Rice

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

By Douglas Bower One thing, of many things actually, that you find happily lacking in the Mexican press is the reporting of silly and insane lawsuits. Unlike in the United States, where people will sue each another for just about anything, it doesn’t seem to occur (thank God) in Mexico. “He looked at me the wrong way and offended me. I want 10 million dollars for pain and suffering, thank you very much.” I don’t know if it is that Mexico has its head screwed on correctly when it comes to tort laws or what, but you just don’t see people suing over the most idiotic things here. Here are just a few examples[1] of the extremes Americans are allowed to get by with: Two surfers went to court after one allegedly stole the other surfer’s wave. The case was dismissed after court officials found it impossible to put a monetary value on the wave. (Can you believe the courts even attempted to try this case?) A California woman sued a grocery store after she dropped a six-pack of beer on her feet. The woman was not injured, but she said that it hurt. She won the lawsuit. (Amount undisclosed.) A man sued the city of San Diego for $5.4 million after he suffered emotional trauma at an Elton John concert in Municipal Stadium. The man says that a woman was using the men’s urinal, a sight that he claims he found extremely upsetting. (Was this guy for real?) Jerry Williams sued and won $14,500 plus medical expenses after his neighbor’s beagle bit him on the buttocks. The dog was on a chain in a fenced-in yard. Williams had been shooting the dog repeatedly with a pellet gun at the time of the incident. (Hurray for the dog!) Carl Truman, 19, won $74,000 and medical expenses after he sued the neighbor who ran over his hand. His neighbor claimed that he did not realize Truman was stealing his hubcaps at the time. (Someone should sue the jurors who awarded a thief one red cent!) Now, pardon me while I make a few comments on these wonderfully litigious patriots: The surfer should have been slapped soundly and sent on his way. Is that insane or what? What was this guy on? The beer-dropping California woman should have been committed to the Betty Ford Clinic. The man who freaked out at an Elton John Concert over a woman going pee-pee should be told to get a life and stop being a big baby. The buttock-bitten man got what he deserved and the dog should be awarded the $14,500 dollars for biting the madman in the buttocks. The hubcap-stealing gomer who got his hand run over should have to serve time and then pay the $74,000 to the neighbor from whom he was stealing. Here is the best one of all. John Jenkins, 53, a methane power plant operator with North West Fuels Development Inc.an expert, mind yougoes into a port-a-potty to do his business, lights up a cigarette, and gets his butt blown out the door. You would think this guy, an expert in this field, would have known better than to light a cig around pipes and port-a-potties full of methane gas. What was he thinking! He wasn’t. In addition, for his carelessness, he got himself blown out the door of the toilet with his britches down around his ankles. He lived. Consequently, he is suing for $10 million dollars in damages[2] He will probably win. I heard of a potential lawsuit case from a friend who worked in a particular restaurant. A woman diner complained that her fried rice was cold. My waitress friend brought it back, told the cook, who promptly dropped his drawers (I swear this is true!) and sat his naked butt on the rice to warm it up. The customer never knew about it. How much do you think she would have won in the “Butt-Fried Rice Lawsuit”? ### [1] http://xtremods.com/vbulletin/archive/index.php/t-2458.html [2]Man sues for $10 million over exploding toilet 53-year-old claims he was severely burned in methane blast The Associated Press, June 3, 2005 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8085008/?GT1=6657 Freelance writer, Syndicated Columnist, and book author, Doug Bower, has written a compelling new book titled, AMERICA’S ANTI-MEXICAN XENOPHOBIA. Have you wondered if the Minuteman Project is really on the “up and up”? Have you wondered if they represent all that is good and right with Americaparagons of patriotic virtue? The Benefits of Using a Palm Springs Wedding Planner

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

By Eric Patterson Each year, in the Palm Springs area, a large number of weddings take place. When it comes to Palm Springs weddings, there are many couples who try and plan their own weddings. While some are successful, most find that planning their own wedding was harder than they imagined. Whether you are about to start planning your wedding or if you have already started, you may want to considering using the services of a Palm Springs wedding planner. When it comes to using the services of a Palm Springs wedding planner, there are many couples who are unsure why they need professional assistance. As previously mentioned, not everyone needs professional assistance. There are some couples who are able to successfully plan their own wedding, but not everyone is able to. There are a wide number of reasons why you may need a professional wedding planner. Wedding planners are defined as individuals who offer assistance to couples who are planning a wedding. In many cases, wedding planners are in charge of planning the whole wedding. Their duties may include, but should not be limited to, the booking of a wedding venue, the ordering and mailing of invitations, the ordering and set up of wedding decorations, and the ordering of food, drinks, and entertainment. By examining just a few of the duties of most wedding planners, you can easily see that there are a number of benefits to using their services. Perhaps, one of the greatest benefits of using a Palm Springs wedding planner is the amount of time that you will save. Planning a wedding is a time consuming task. Unfortunately, not everyone has enough time to plan their own wedding and continue going about their daily activities. Instead of having to worry about sending out your wedding invitations or booking a caterer, your Palm Springs wedding planner would handle that for you. In addition to saving yourself time, you may also find that using the services of a Palm Springs wedding planner will also save you a large amount of stress. Planning a wedding is a difficult task and difficulty often leads to stress. It is likely that you have heard wedding planning horror stories in the past. Many of these stories involve brides going crazy, when planning their wedding. Instead of taking the risk of endangering your health or offending those that are trying to help you, you may want to consider using the services of a Palm Springs wedding planner. The cost of using the services of a Palm Springs wedding planner will all depend on who you are working with. Sometimes the cost may seem high, but it is important to keep in mind what you are getting. You are not just having your wedding planned in a professional matter, but you are also getting extra time and peace of mind. Those are things that you cannot put a price tag on. Master Cleanse Diet Review - Why’s, Do’s and Dont’s

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

By Linda Mie Avid dieters in the world should have known the definition of Lemonade diet a.k.a Master Cleanse diet. In a nutshell, it’s a diet that require you to drink lemonade drink, tea and salt water in order to cleanse your body from toxins and eventually fat. Since it’s a diet that requires fasting, many dieters have vouched against the master cleanse diet. Most of the reasons behind this hatred against master cleanse diet are: 1. You will just lose water weight not fat. 2. Your body will lack severely of nutrition. 3. You will probably gain your weight right away after your fasting period is over. However not all dieters are created equal. For some dieters, like me, weight loss is a matter of life and death in some situations. Sometime we need to get slim quick in order to save our faces in community events or other personal reasons. That’s why this fasting diet is still popular although many dieticians have vouched against it. Few people understand that weight loss is sometimes we want to trade with short term suffering. Beyonce Knowles herself has undertaken this diet in order to get her shaped up for Dreamgirls filming. And with Beyonce telling Oprah that she used this diet, this diet is getting more and more popular. So I began my fasting in accordance with the diet, and although it was hard but I experienced 10 pounds decrease in approximately 2 weeks. Here’s the Do’s and Dont’s for master cleanse diet. Do’s: -Eat raw vegetables and fruits if your hunger is unbearable. -Eat a little supply of carbohydrate twice in a week fasting. (Baked potato, brown rice, sushi) -Drink your laxative tea in the night regularly. -Drink approx 4 glasses of water everyday. You need water to make sure you don’t face dehydration. -Use freshly squeezed lemon juice. -Focus on cleansing your body from toxins and weight loss will come naturally. Dont’s: -Drink the saltwater beverage that the diet requires you to. The reason is that the saltwater can threaten your body metabolism by forcing you to excrete more water. Laxative tea is already enough. -Undertake heavy exercise that force you to sweat a lot. -Drink the lemonade two times more than you drink the water. -Mix this diet with cabbage soup diet or other fad diet. -Eat high sugary snacks during the diet. -Focus on losing weight during the fasting, you will end up starving yourself more than ever. -Eat too much after your fasting period. Adjust your eating portion gradually. -Don’t do this diet for more than 2 weeks without resting. By following the do’s and dont’s that I mentioned above you should be able to succeed in the master cleanse diet. And always remember that the purpose is to cleanse your body, don’t worry about weight loss. It will come naturally together with the cleansing. Good luck and happy dieting! Garden Fences - 4 Things You Need to Consider Before Buying a Garden Fence

Monday, January 21st, 2008

By George Kerr What type of fence you choose for your garden depends greatly on how you plan to use it. Fences have a number of uses - they don’t just have to be decorative. You may want to put up a fence for security and privacy reasons, or it may be so that you want to grow climbing plants up it. Whatever your decision, make sure you do some research on each type of fence. Wind Conditions If your garden is often hit by strong winds then you want to make sure that it can withstand it and not blow over. If this is the case you should avoid buying a solid fence. Instead look for an open-work fence or even plant a hedge. Wood You will see a lot of wooden fences preserved with creosote however this can be harmful to plants and wildlife so you may want to avoid it. After some years of owning your wooden fence, you may find that it starts to lean over, when this happens, place a strut against it for support, and then disguise it by growing some plants over it. Increasing the Height of Your Fence If you have owned your fence for some time or “inherited” it from a previous owner you may find you would like some more privacy. This is very easy to deal with, simply buy a trellis and attach it to the top of the fence. When doing this, make sure that the fence posts have first of all been extended to at least the height of the trellis. What is great about doing this is that extension panels come in a variety of shapes and styles - so you can give your old fence a totally new look. Security As previously mentioned, fences are ideal for adding security to your property. For added security you can buy anti-climb spikes which attach onto the top of the fence. There are a variety of deterrents available - some of these look more vicious than others. Alternatively there is also anti-climb paint which never sets so it would have to be quite a determined thieve to want to burgle your home. A more “organic” way to deter intruders is to grow prickly plants such as brambles and roses. As an added bonus they are great for attracting wildlife! As you can see there is more that just one type of fence to buy. Hopefully this article has given you some food for thought and you don’t simply rush out any buy the first fence you see in the garden supply store.
