5 Ways To Save Money On Your International Cell Phone Roaming

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Shonika_Proctor]Shonika Proctor Go Figure! After having recently returned from a nice relaxing holiday in Europe (Amsterdam, Prague and Vienna) I can definitely relate if you are one of those people who thoroughly enjoy 1 Euro half pint beers, but feel the hangover kick in a month later when you open that 100 Euro mobile phone bill. Funny how that works huh? You work so hard to save money via outsourcing and/or setting up an International office where you do a lot of business abroad only to blow your savings on wireless roaming every month. As the current average roaming rate in China (across the industry) is $5.99/minute whether you are making or receiving a call, Im sure you can see how this can quickly add up even if the only thing you are doing is retrieving your voice mail. So I have decided to share with you some of my clever tricks that I often use to help my clients save a ton of money on their international wireless roaming fees. 5 Ways to Save Money on Your International Wireless Roaming 1. Jajah, Free Your Voice with FREE CALLS to CHINA! Think of it like Skype for cell phones. Most of the carriers intentionally put a delay in your wireless handset on the data service hence if you have ever tried to use Skype from your mobile you hear an echo. Unfortunately, it is not a bad connection. It is basically a diplomatic way to keep you from taking up precious and valuable space on the data network and getting a little bit carried away with your unlimited data package. Just like nothing in life is Free neither is anything truly unlimited. At any rate, Jajah is a FREE download for your cell phone. As long as you and the person you are calling have Jajah software downloaded on your respective handsets you can call each other for free and talk unlimited ;-). Jajah makes its money from website advertising and selling other premium services. 2. Babble Stick: Oh the beauty of IP based telephony. Plug your Babble Stick into any PC around the world and make free phone calls. They also have a handset version of the stick which is really small and cute (its on their website). Babble Stick uses a secure software platform integrated on a USB key with audio devices and drivers built in. There is no special software required. Additionally, instant messaging and voice mail comes standard with your Babble Stick. Just plug in and babble away. That word is starting to grow on me. I think I am going to start saying Babble instead of talk and Handy instead of cell phone, cause dats what they say in the U.K. Ok now, carry on. 3. Unlock Your Phone and use a Pre-Paid SIM Card. And better yet if your company uses Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony service, forward your extension to your mobile number. The reason why is the Pre-Paid SIM Card phone number is different from your regular cell phone number that is why forwarding your number is recommended so that you only have to give people one number to reach you (although you can forward your phone number from any phone that has a call forwarding feature built-in, beware the per call forwarding fee). Unlocking your phone means having the carrier restrictions released so that you can use your phone with any GSM carrier SIM Card. The 2 major benefits of unlocking your phone/BlackBerry is: #1, you can use your phone anywhere in the world there is a GSM network as opposed to only in the places your carrier has roaming agreements in place and #2 You can save a crapload of money on your roaming fees by using the local provider in the country which you are located. With a pre-paid SIM Card you are paying local rates when you make and receive calls within that country and also in most European Countries calling party pays which means essentially your incoming calls are free. If you are a T-Mobile subscriber who has had service for more than 3 months you can call T-Mobile Customer Care and request to have your phone unlocked for free. They will provide you with the unlock code and give you the instructions to manually unlock your phone. For all other GSM carriers you will have to use a third party provider and pay a nominal fee. I personally use and recommend: Unlock It Now And for all persons looking to obtain Pre-Paid SIM Cards at an aggressive international rate, the most aggressive international rate with FREE incoming calls I have found is through Cellular Abroad. 4. Try to use your data features such as email and text messaging as opposed to making voice calls when possible. Using two-way messaging and email is considerably less expensive than per minute call rates. And use your Babble Stick ;-) to check your cellular voice mail when possible. 5. Palm and BlackBerry users who travel overseas regularly throughout the year should call their respective wireless carriers and request an international data package. This will allow you to get unlimited use of your email at a flat fee when you travel abroad. The rate is about $12-15/mo additional. And bonus: You can set up your BlackBerry or Palm as a modem and tether it to your laptop to save on your daily hotel Wi-Fi rate. Cheers. The Purpose Served By Money

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Winston Goldstein Money seems to divide the world into the haves and have nots. Given this disparity, one might wonder why whether it is worth it. Well, here is your answer! In the beginning of the social interaction between human beings, the barter system worked quite well. The barter system is basically a trade arrangement and requires that two or more parties have a mutual desire to trade and have goods that the other one wants to acquire. In the small and primitive cultures of pre-history, this was often enough. The only commodities that anyone had any interest in were food, clothing, and weapons. If one man had a weapon, and the other had some food, a deal could be easily arranged. The barter system could not last forever. It was because of the ability of the human mind to under stand symbols and to assign value to them that we were able to develop a means of moving past the barter system. Money became the means by which civilization and socialization took place. Now, when a person wished to do something beyond the production of the basics, such as a work of art, he did not have to wait for someone willing to trade the food he desired for his art. He could trade the art for money, and trade the money for the food. Money became the middle man that allowed diversification and growth. Money had to accomplish three distinct missions in order to become a workable replacement for the barter economy. It had to be a medium of exchange. This means that people needed to recognize its value and be willing to except it in trade for goods or services. This acceptance and recognition had to be universal within the society. If your money was not accepted for the goods or services you desired, it was worthless. Money also served as a unit of account. This means that it must have a set value that could be assigned to a product or a service to determine where it stood in the overall economic picture. If you made a piece of art, you needed to be able to set a money value on it, and that same money value needed to be accepted by a food merchant. In the barter system if one art piece was worth four cows, then the cows must have a value of one unit of money and the art piece must be worth four units. You must also be able to store the money at value. This means that the money and its value had to be durable and relatively unchanging. This means that you did not have to go and buy four cows as soon as you sold your art piece. You could save your money, and accumulate it for use at another time. This was the beginning of the idea of wealth. Money has been called the root of all evil, but actually it is the root of all growth. Recognizing the Physical Symptoms of Depression

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Andrew Bicknell Depression is one of the most debilitating mental disorders of our modern era. It affects nearly 10 million Americans every year. Although it is primarily thought of as a mental condition depression can also inflict varying amounts of pain and discomfort that manifest as physical symptoms of depression. One of the problems associated with the physical symptoms of depression is the misdiagnosis of the depression itself. Doctors, when presented with these physical symptoms, will test for and diagnose a physical illness and prescribe treatments to treat these symptoms not knowing or understanding that the symptoms are hiding a more insidious disease. When you look at a list of the physical symptoms of depression you can see why these misdiagnosis and mistreatments can occur. 1. Headaches These are one of the first symptoms that can occur with depression. In fact headaches can be intensified to migraine like intensity in someone who is suffering from depression. 2. Chest Pains Depression can cause chest pains, which for most people is a sign of an impending heart attack. While any chest pain should be checked by a doctor it can also be a symptom of depression. 3. Sleep Disorders People who suffer from depression can have either problems going to sleep (insomnia) or they sleep for excessively long periods of time. Thy may have trouble getting out of bed as well. 4. Digestive System Issues Diarrhea, constipation, and nausea are all physical symptoms of depression. 5. Extreme Fatigue The majority of people who suffer from depression also suffer from perpetual exhaustion. This can relate back to the sleep disorders and it doesnt seem to matter how much sleep they get they still are fatigued. 6. Back Pain and Muscle Aches Depression can intensify the pain and discomfort of people who are already suffering from these conditions. 7. Appetite and Weight Issues - People with depression can experience either a lack of appetite or intense cravings for certain foods. This can be accompanied by either weight gain or weight loss. Another issue for people who suffer from more severe forms of depression may be even harder to diagnose because with severe depression can come delusions and hallucinations. It can become increasingly difficult to know whether a depression sufferer actually has some of the physical symptoms of depression or if they are inventing them. It is also easier for many people to accept the physical symptoms of depression then any mental symptoms. There are many people and cultures that place a social stigma on anyone with a mental illness. It is therefore easier to accept and treat a more benign physical ailment then it is to deal with issues of the mind. What many people do not understand is that with the successful treatment of the underlying depression with either therapy or medication or both the physical symptoms of depression will often be resolved. Unfortunately treating the physical symptoms will do nothing for actual the depression and without proper treatment the depression will normally continue to get worse. It is therefore of the utmost importance to treat the depression itself if a sufferer is to see any relief from the physical symptoms of depression. Bridal Showers Not Just For Brides Anymore

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By L Hayes Wedding lore differs on the origins of the bridal shower. One has it that back in the days when weddings were arranged by families, a poor Dutchman fell in love with a girl whose father refused her a dowry. So, her friends showered her with enough gifts to help the couple start a household. It was the end of the 19th century, another story goes, and a soon-to-be-married woman was at a party, during which friends surreptitiously placed small packages inside her parasol. When she opened it up, she was ’showered’ with the gifts. For the modern couple, “Jack and Jill,” or coed, showers are becoming increasingly popular; gifts and games should be geared to both genders. (Hey guys, that ’s not so tough. What man wouldn’t enjoy opening a box of sexy lingerie to be worn by his new wife on their honeymoon?) Because lifestyles are so varied, so too are the showers. For the bride and groom who already have their basic household needs, for example, a shower could be focused on services - gift certificates to restaurants, beauty or health and fitness salons. These days - gourmet food, garden and recipe showers are among the more popular themes for prenuptial celebrations. For a sophisticated couples shower, wine tasting is recommended. Guests bring bottles of wine and champagne as gifts; the hosts serve wine and cheese at the party. One couple hosted a shower with a Las Vegas theme. Their house was decorated like the inside of a casino, with the entrance to one of the rooms adorned as a wedding chapel. It didn’t mention gift ideas. But board games, theatre and lottery tickets, restaurant gift certificates, satin sheets and cosmetics would be in keeping with the Las Vegas scene. “Just for You” is a shower that features gifts that are personalized: engraved, initialed or monogrammed. They can include stationery, jewelry, desk and vanity items and linens. Gifts can include luggage, auto accessories, sports equipment, travel books, maps and picnic baskets. I recently attended a shower for a friend with a “Through the Year” theme. Each guest was assigned a month and asked to give a gift appropriate to that month. One guest, who was given August, packed a beach bag with a towel, sunblock, water bottle and other sun-and-fun items for the bride-to-be. The December guest bought the future newlyweds their first Christmas ornament. In conclusion, traditionally, wedding showers have been intimate home-based affairs for the bride with close friends and family. But the current trend reflects larger, more elaborate events. And shower themes can be as varied as hosts’ imaginations. L Hayes is a wedding professional and owner of Wedding Favors Emporium. Could Your Dry Damaged Hair Be Caused By Hard Water?

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Louise Forrest Dry, damaged hair can be extremely annoying! The hair snaps easily, split ends are never ending and it can cause the hair to feel exactly like straw. There are several factors which contribute towards making the hair dry, and some of these things are environmental. The Environmental Damage on Your Hair There are a number of environmental factors which contribute to dry, damaged hair. These include natural sunlight, air pollution, and hard water. Many people do not realize that the water they are using to wash their hair is often filled with chemicals and chlorine. These chemicals can potentially dry out the hair and can even turn it a different color! Sometimes hard water is to blame for how our shampoos and conditioners work. If you travel around, you will notice that the same shampoo and conditioner will work differently from place to place. This is because not everywhere has the same amount of hard water. Today it is thought that around 85% of American people are washing and bathing in hard water. Hard water causes the hair to stand up and makes it harder to wash and it can make the hair tangled and rough. When the hair is tangled, the shampoo and conditioner is often not washed out effectively enough and so that can cause quite a few problems! If you wash in softer water you are no doubt going to have better results as the water does not leave any residue in the hair. There are some special shampoos and conditioners for use in hard water areas which are designed to help protect the hair form drying our too much. These products are generally more expensive but they do work. Chlorine is used in household water to effectively kill bacteria. It is thought that some households in America even have the same amount of chlorine in their water, as there is in a swimming pool. This is not good news for the hair and special precautions should be taken in order to protect it. How to Treat Damage to the Hair Caused by Household Water It is thought that rinsing the hair in rain water which has been filtered a few times through a coffee filter, is a good solution. Instead of using hard water, you are using natural water which has been filtered of all its chemicals. Another remedy you could use is if you live in a place where the water is extremely hard, you could rinse the hair with either vinegar or lemon juice. Obviously lemon juice will smell better, but generally vinegar is very good for solving many hair problems. As mentioned earlier, there are also specially designed shampoos and conditioners which can often be found on the Internet. These are unique and they really do help to get rid of any chemicals within the hair that cause it to become dry and damaged. If you do not know whether you live in a hard water area or not, your water supplier should be able to provide you with any information you need. If you look online, you should also be able to find various maps which show the worst affected areas as well as the soft water areas. It really is worth finding out as the hard water could be causing your hair to be dry and damaged. Other environmental factors which could be damaging the hair include modern appliances such as hairdryers, straighteners or curling tongs. It is always better to protect the hair using styling products before you actually do style it, in order to prevent the hair from becoming damaged. Overall check to see whether hard water is a problem in your area and if it is start taking precautions now and you could help your hair to be soft and shiny once more! Marriage - Compromise

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Michael Russell There is one key to making a successful marriage that is probably one of the hardest things in the world to do. It’s called compromise. Why is this so hard? Simple. We may be part of a marriage but we are still individuals. And as individuals we have different likes and dislikes. It’s not like we married a clone of ourselves, Our partner may not and probably doesn’t like the same things we do. In some cases, such as the choice of a magazine we like to read, this isn’t a problem. After all, if you’re sitting in your corner reading the latest issue of Popular Mechanics, it isn’t haven’t any real effect on your spouse. But what about when it comes to watching TV and 9 PM prime time has just hit and your spouse wants to watch Desperate Housewives and you want to watch the football game? Then what? Well, hopefully these few tips and suggestions just might get you past these not so small problems. In the case of TV, with today’s technology, this isn’t very hard to get around. Of course it still does require some kind of compromise. With TIVO and digital cable, shows can be taped and watched at a later date. So there’s no need to miss your favorite show, even if there are two things on at the same time. But that still means that somebody has to wait to watch their program, so a level of compromise is still needed. This can be handled very easily. Simply agree to alternate between who gets to watch live TV and who has to wait to watch their show. By agreeing to this schedule and sticking to it, you’ll avoid arguments over what to watch on TV. What about when it comes to going out for dinner. You want Chinese but your spouse wants Italian. There are a couple of ways to settle a problem like this. The one is and this only works if you go out to eat often, to alternate preferences. One time you go to Chinese and the next time you go to Italian. If that doesn’t work for you then a great compromise is to pick something other than your two main choices. Agree to maybe go to a diner or even a pizza place. There has to be something on your list of favorite restaurants and foods that you both can agree on that is neutral. Let’s say you’re looking through the newspaper trying to decide on a movie to go to. Your spouse wants to see some tear jerker while you want to see the latest kung fu flick. There are a couple of ways you can work this out as well. One is to agree to go see both movies on two different nights. If that doesn’t work for you then the other choice is to look through the list of movies and see if you can’t find something that you both agree on. Yes, it may take some work, but that’s what compromise is all about. And if all this fails, then try thinking about your spouses feelings first. Sometimes it can be a really great feeling to be unselfish and do something just for your spouse. Try it. You may just like the feeling. How You Live Determines How Fit You Are

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Shawn LeBrun Did you know that how you live, day to day, determines the level of fitness and muscularity you’ll achieve? It’s true, if you have a lifestyle that supports weight(fat) loss, you will not have to worry about being overweight. If your lifestyle is not supportive of fat loss and staying fit, then it really doesn’t matter what you do in the gym, your results will be limited. It’s when you expect one thing and do something totally opposite trying to get it that there becomes a problem. If you weight train intensely, do your cardio consistently, and support yourself nutritionally, you’ll get leaner, stronger, and more fit. It happens. Certain steps lead to certain destinations. But doing things repeatedly that DO NOT support your goals will ensure you DO NOT reach them. Here’s some examples; It’s the new year and you decide one of your resolutions is to lose weight, specifically 15 pounds of fat. You give up your old, pleasurable lifestyle of eating burgers and fries four nights a week while watching your favorite T.V. shows. Your new, improved lifestyle involves eating salads and chicken breasts and exercising at the time you used to watch your T.V. shows. You’re so determined to lose this weight that you sacrifice all sense of fun for the next four weeks while you continue to exercise each night, skipping the fast food and T.V. Four weeks have gone by and you’ve indeed lost your goal weight of 15 pounds. So you figure, hey, I’ve done it, now I can celebrate a bit. I’m going to cut back a bit on the exercise now that I’ve lost the weight I wanted and I think I’ll see what’s on the T.V. You go to the fridge for a snack and realize you haven’t gone shopping for your healthy foods yet this week. But hey, there’s still those burgers and fries in the fridge, and you’ve earned a little celebration meal. Soon, the lost pleasure of eating this delicious food and watching your favorite TV show returns and feels so great. So you do it again the next night, and the next, etc…. The old, unproductive habits have crept back into your life and have now influenced the newer, more productive ones. Your lifestyle is nothing more than what you do, day in and day out. It can either support your fitness goals or hurt them. If you want to shed some body fat yet you continue to take days off from cardio because you’re not motivated enough to do it, that’s part of your lifestyle. What you choose to do each day will influence what you get in return. Make small, improved lifestyle changes that support your fitness goals and continue them until they become habit. Then move on to another small change that benefits you, replacing an older, less productive habit. In fact, by making lifestyle changes in moderation, you increase the likelihood that these changes will be permanent. Anytime that you go back to the unproductive lifestyle that caused you to be overweight, the weight you lost can return again. The solution? Do not rule out all sense of pleasure when you decide to go after your fitness goal. In fact, your fitness goals of being slimmer, more muscular, and more confident should be more pleasureable than burgers or fries. If your surrounding environment and habits (cookies, cake, ice cream in front of the TV) do not contribute to your fitness goals, you need to make a change so that what you eat and do each day does. Solar Lights - A Way To Lighting Up Your Yard After Dark

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Jerome Sturgeleski Illuminating gardens, decks and walkways at night with outdoor lighting can create a whole new look and feel around your home. People choose outdoor lighting for a variety of reasons: Accenting trees, shrubs, planting beds or architectural features to turn them into focal points. Illuminated paths, steps and walkways to make navigating them easier. Security lighting to make your property more secure. Adding outdoor lighting can be very easy. The first step is to choose a system that’s right for you. There are a wide variety of options to choose from and prices to fit just about any budget. Solar lights are a popular choice because there’s no wiring to install and no electricity bill to pay. They may cost more than other options, but you do save a little on your electric bills and you can move them around a lot easier than ones that are hard-wired. The most widely used type of outdoor lighting utilizes solar power. Solar lights are economical, safe and easy to install. A nice feature about solar lights is that the lights can be easily moved to compensate for plant growth or for different lighting effects. A couple of options for solar lighting would be: Globe lights are designed to cast small pools of light on the ground. They’re ideal for softly illuminating the edge of the patio. Floodlights send out a stronger, focused beam of light–perfect for highlighting a specific tree, bush or area of the yard or garden. To get started, develop a diagram and lay all the lights on the ground where you want them. Adjust until the location and spacing is to your liking. Once you are satisfied where they should go, push them into the ground. If they dont look right, pull them up and move them. Its as simple as that.A few lights in the right places can give your yard or garden a magical feel at night. The simple do-it-yourself installation allows anyone to setup professional type lighting at a fraction of the cost that a professional would charge. Installation could not be easier. Because there is no wiring and no dangerous mains voltage, they can be set almost anywhere to create new focal points for evening viewing. Solar lighting can be a very good addition to your yard without it costing a lot. To check out some cool solar lights see http://www.solarlightspro.com Jerome Sturgeleski started a website in May of 2005 when he decided to share his passion for enjoying his yard after hours. He thought that if his newly renovated landscaping project could be lighted after dark it would be enjoyable even in evening hours. He started small and is now offering many different types of solar lighting that would fit in in any number of applications. Abatement With DDT Concept Needs Second Look

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Lance Winslow As you are probably aware DDT was banned in many countries. But DDT kills mosquitoes and in places like Africa where the death rate of children is 5 to one perhaps a little DDT in the water is not such a bad idea as it keeps the mosquito population down and keeps them from spreading things like malaria, yellow fever and other blood-borne diseases. There are many diseases and viruses that use mosquitoes as their vector to spread. In Asia malaria is also a serious issue and the mosquitoes are quite prevalent there and therefore spread it fast. Many people were down on DDT for a number of years and yet studies and research shows that a little DDT could go a long way in preventing deaths. It therefore stands to reason that abatement with DDT is a concept, which needs a second look and a better evaluation. Perhaps the lesser of two evils does make sense in this case and since there are no other viable alternatives at the presence it would seem that fewer deaths of children under the ages of 8 would be a worthy goal. Too much use of DDT we know is very bad for the environment and organic life. But small traces of DDT, might save lives and that means it would be a good thing.
