7 Benefits Of Menu Planning

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

By Susanne Myers If youve been thinking about menu planning but need a little extra push to get started, please read on. You will find 7 great reasons why planning your meal, especially dinner, ahead of time is a good idea. Hopefully this will convince you to give meal planning a try. Once you start, you will realize just how beneficial it is to you and your family, and soon you wont be able to imagine cooking for your family without a plan. 1) Get Dinner On The Table Faster If you know what you are going to fix for dinner, and you have everything you need at your fingertips, getting the food on the table becomes a snap. You dont have to stop at the store on your way home, to pick up something to cook. If you are stuck at the office, and your spouse knows whats on the menu for the night he or she can get started without you. 2) Run To The Store Less Often How many times to you run to the grocery store to buy something to cook for dinner. I dont know about you, but it takes me at least 45 minutes every time I do that. Menu planning allows you to get all your shopping done once a week, and make sure you have what you need to prepare every single dinner for the week. 3) Youll Eat Better You have the best intentions to prepare wholesome, healthy meals for your family. Then you get home late, everyone is hungry and there is nothing in the fridge. You head for takeout or call the pizza delivery guy. If you plan your meals and have what you need at home you are much more likely to actually cook all those healthy dishes for your family. 4) It Saves You Money How much food do you throw out each week because you just didnt get around to cooking it? Plus every time you go to the store there are a few extra things that just make their way into your cart and on your grocery bill. If you shop less and only for those items that you actually need, you spend a lot less money on groceries each week. 5) It Saves You Time In addition to saving you money, meal planning also saves you time. You only have to go grocery shopping once a week, and there is no more wondering about whats for dinner tonight. Everything you need from the recipe to the ingredients is right at your fingertips. 6) Quality Family Time When you think back to your own childhood, family dinner is sure to come to mind as a time when everyone got together to eat a meal and talk about the day. You can recreate that experience for your family and spend some quality time each week over a home-cooked meal. 7) It Is Easy Last, but not least, meal planning is easy to do and makes it easy to cook every day. And a menu planning service like Healthy Menu Mailer makes it effortless. You get the recipes and a shopping list delivered to your email inbox every week. All you have to do is shop and cook. Emagrece Sim Weight Loss Diet Pills: FDA Warning

Monday, May 26th, 2008

By Steve Joseph Amidst confusion and controversy over the safety and efficacy of Emagrece Sim, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has finally released a formal warning to consumers. The warning states that the use of Emagrece Sim and Herbathin Dietary Supplements may be harmful. In fact Emagrece Sim, also known as the Brazilian Diet Pill contains a cocktail of dangerous ingredients, some of which are controlled substances and found in prescription drugs. The side effects of the use of Emagrece Sim may be serious and the FDA is advising that use could result in injury. The drug is made by Brazilian pharmaceutical companys Fitoterapicos and also Phytotherm Sim. http://www.1drugrehabcentre.com reports that all efforts are currently being made to stop further shipments of Emagrece Sim from entering the United States although the task may prove difficult. The current demand for weight loss drugs is almost insatiable in the majority of the country however the FDA hopes that by alerting their field staff, they may be able to contain much of the traffic. Although Emagrece Sim is currently the focus for authorities, experts are saying that there is a growing problem with potentially dangerous products entering the U.S. market. Like Emagrece Sim, the unknown quantities and quality of many drugs that claim to assist people with weight loss, is becoming a serious problem. Emagrece Sim actually contains a drug called Fenproporex, a stimulant that the body converts to amphetamine. This means that aside from the immediate health risks of taking Emagrece Sim, people may unwitting find themselves failing urinalysis testing for amphetamines. The drug comes in pill form and is available in a range of strengths although all levels of potency have now been outlawed. Unfortunately Emagrece Sim is still available on the internet, but the emphasis is now on educating people of the dangers of this weight loss formula before irreversible damage is done. Tips To Survive A Layoff

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

By Nathan Newberger The following eight tips will help make sure that recover from alayoff sooner than you think. #1 - DON’T PANIC: You may have lost your job but you have not lost everything. You area skilled individual and will work again. Do not ever lose sight ofthese two simple sentences. Do not let yourself fall into a spiralof negative thinking. Think back to all the other people that youknow of that have lost jobs in the past and are now successfullyemployed. #2 - REFLECT AND RECOVER: Step back and clear your head. Anger and fear are two of the mostcommon emotions experienced after a job-loss. Neither is conduciveto clear thinking or good decision-making. Take some time to talkthrough your feelings of loss with friends and family members. Ifthis does not help, consider the services of a professionalcounselor. Sort through your emotional baggage or else risk draggingit with you on your job-search. #3 - ORGANIZE YOUR FINANCES: Take a serious look at your spending habits. List out your monthlyexpenses into 2 groups- absolutely necessary and optional. If youhave already been laid off you should limit your spending to thefirst category. If you are still employed but fearing what thefuture may hold, start cutting back in the second category. Ageneral rule of thumb is to keep the enough cash to cover at leasttwo months worth of expenses in the bank for emergencies. If youhave not had a chance to do so as of the time of termination, youstill have options. Dont forget that most companies offer aseverance package to laid off employees. In addition you can alsocontact your local un-employment agency regarding unemploymentbenefits. #4 - INSURANCE: Just because you have lost your job does not mean that you and yourfamily have immediately lost all insurance coverage that you hadwhile you were employed. It just means that now you are responsiblefor paying for it all by yourself. Under COBRA (Consolidated OmnibusBudget Reconciliation Act) generally you can remain on your formeremployers plan for up to 18 months as long as you pay the premiums.Remember that there are time limits for signing up for COBRA. Youcan get more COBRA information from the human resources department ofyour former employer. #5 - UPDATE YOUR RESUME: Take account of all the skills and responsibilities that you acquiredon your last job. Make sure that you include these on your updatedresume. And remember this is not the time to be modest; be proudof your accomplishments. If you are unsure on how to lay out or wordyour resume, then you can find many examples of successful resumes onthe Internet or in your local bookstore. Definitely have a friend orfamily member review your resume. Remember that a good resume canoften make the difference between being granted an interview or not.Take the time to make your resume shine. #6 - ACTIVATE YOUR NETWORK: Do not be ashamed that you have been laid off. Tell everyone thatyou think can help that you are looking for work. This does not meanthat you should cry on the shoulder of anyone that will listen. Whatthis does mean is that you should be prepared to tell friends, familyand even acquaintances that you are looking for work, what types ofskills you have and the types of jobs that you would be interestedin. #7 - CONSIDER USING A RECRUITER: Consider using a recruiter. Recruiters a.k.a. headhunters can helpyou to better manage and improve the results of your job search.Using a recruiter has many advantages. These advantages include theirhaving already established relationships with many employers andtheir having access to hidden job opportunities. In addition manyrecruiters will offer tips on how to improve your resume andinterviewing skills. Best of all most recruiters are completely freeto the job seeker. They collect their fees directly from theemployer. #8 - GO BACK TO SCHOOL: Take advantage of the time provided by being laid off to betteryourself both professionally and personally. Some people choose togo back to school and pursue an entirely different trade. Otherswill attend a few classes at the local community college to sharpentheir skills in their chosen profession. Still others will pursue 6or 12 month programs in a trade school. And dont think that yourstudy must be directly career related. This may be the perfectopportunity to study a foreign language or learn to roller blade.Layoffs provide people who are used to being busy with a lot of freetime. Make the most of this time by improving yourself. In conclusion, remember that getting laid off is not the end of theworld. Whether you are recently unemployed or are just feeling a bituncertain about your job security in these tough economic times, theeight survival tips above can help you to get back on your feetquickly in the event of a layoff. Any Job is an Honorable Job

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

By Teresa Proudlove Seeing your job as an honorable job, adds more meaning and peace to your life. Also, seeing the honor in what you do now, creates an ideal foundation upon which a career change can be built. At fifteen, my first job was that of a waitress at a local truck stop. One day, back then, I happened to meet the elementary principal of my past. She mentioned she had heard I was working part time and wondered at what. Shamefacedly I mumbled, “Oh, I am just a waitress.” That wise, old, stern headmistress said to me, “Teresa, any job is an honorable job. Don’t you ever forget it!” And I never have. Of course, seeing the honor in our job is not always an easy task. Societal Values Demean our Work & Worth Our societal values make it difficult to honor so-called menial jobs. Our sick societal values esteem big bank accounts, fancy houses, new cars, extended paid vacations, prestigious jobs, beautiful, youthful looks, and perfectly cloned behaviors. These societal values wring the worth from the vast majority of hard-working folk. Create your own values by looking for the honor and worth in your work now. Any honest day’s work is honorable and worthy. Finding the honor and goodness in everything you do builds dignity and honor within you. Even if you wanted to career change but instead returned to the field you had hoped to leave, remember, there is huge honor and courage in this. Taking care of your family and responsibilities does not mean you are a failure. It means you are a responsible, caring human being. If you cannot find any worth in your current job, that lack of worth will likely haunt your career change. Before jumping jobs, seeking fulfillment elsewhere, consider your current job as sacred work. Your Job as Sacred Work Monastic writers have described their day-to-day, menial work as the path to holiness. Your job is much more than a means to pay bills. Try envisioning your job as your ministry. I have a very health conscious, spiritual friend who, at this moment in her life, sells lottery tickets, liquor and cigarettes in a liquor store to help pay her bills. Rather than bitterly resent her position, she has made it her ministry to create a positive atmosphere, giving kindness and care to every human being that passes through those doors. Not surprisingly, wonderful little miracles occur often. (And yes, she is also doing the groundwork to create new employment.) Rarely are things what they seem to be on the surface. In every relationship, in every job, and in every life experience there is much more going on than meets the eye. “The three foundations of spirituality: hearth as altar, work as worship and service as sacrament.” A Compilation of Triads, Volume I John F. Wright We are always being called to see the bigger picture and to grow nearer to our soul. To find more meaning within the work you do now, query your soul as to the larger view. Ask Your Soul Try sitting quietly for awhile. Practice letting go of passing thoughts while lightly noticing your breath coming in and going out. Relax your body and mind. Ask your soul, “What is my work really about. What work am I really doing here?” When I had grown weary of facilitating the same career assessment program for nine years, I sat and asked my soul this same question. Within the whisper of my small, still voice I heard the truth, “You are bringing light and hope to people.” The work I was doing was not about self assessment tools or job search but about bringing light and hope to people. From that day onward the program was no longer repetitive for me and as I gained more depth and meaning in my work, so did the program. When we see our work as sacred and honorable, we feel good about what we are doing and who we are. This goodness spins off into our family, workplace and ultimately the world. This also, builds an ideal foundation for career change, if we so desire. From honoring ourselves and our current work we can then successfully begin taking small steps towards change. History of Parsley: Parsley in Greek History

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

By D. Perse Native to Mediterranean, parsley has been cultivated and used in culinary and medicine for thousands of years. In times of Hippocrates (he was born around the year 460 BC on the Greek island of Kos) parsley has been used in cure-all remedies, as antidote to poisons, to cure rheumatism, for relieving kidney and bladder stones and more. In Homers Odyssey (written sometime between 800 and 600 BC) theres a description of parsley, growing on an island, named Ogygia. About a century later, the winners of Nemean and Isthmus sporting events were crowned with the wreaths made of parsley. It is interesting that ancient Greeks used parsley for everything but cooking and eating. The legend says that parsley has first sprouted from the blood of Archemorus (hero in Greek mythology: the Forerunner of death) and was therefore sacred to the dead. The tombs of deceased were decorated with parsley. A crown of wild olive was given to the victor at Olympia, and laurel at Delphi. And at the Isthmian Games pine leaves, at the Nemean Games parsley, as we know from the cases of Palaemon and Archemorus. But most games have a crown of palm as the prize, and everywhere the palm is put into the right hand of the victor. (Pausanias: Description of Greece, c. 175 CE) Traditional Greek recipes (just as abundant with history as Greeks mythology) use flat leaf parsley, a lot of it, many times even as a vegetable, in huge amounts, above all in stews. Today, with many of the ancient claims scientifically confirmed, we know that parsley is rich in vitamins (especially A and C) and minerals. It is also said to help eliminate the toxins out of ones body, remove or inactivate free radicals, help with rheumatoid arthritis and lessen inflammations. With high chlorophyll content parsley is also a great natural breath freshener. Just like parsley is a saying, still used in Greece for the person, who appears to be everywhere, without any significant role. Teaching Moments - Quickest Way To Success

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

By John Bishop Every so often you read something that hits you smack in the face. The concept you just read about is one of those thats so easy why didnt I think of it moments. I was reading Paula Benners excellent book, Benjamin Franklins Art of Virtue Journal and had just that type of reaction. Ben Franklin was the 15th child of a poor family, and had only three years of formal training, yet he overcame many potential obstacles to his success. He lived from 1706 1790 and during his 84 years he became an author, publisher, inventor of the lightning rod and the Franklin stove, one of Americas Founding Fathers, signed the Declaration of Independence, and was the United States Ambassador to France. He was a life long learner and taught himself five languages and could play several musical instruments. Ben Franklin started every day off looking for things he could do to help others. He focused doing good by asking two questions every day. In the morning: What good can I do today? Before bed: What good did I do today? Wow! So simple yet so powerful. Ever heard the old adage give to others and it will come back to you ten fold. History suggests that the adage came true for Mr. Franklin. I would strongly recommend learning more about how Ben Franklin lived his life. It may have been over two hundred years ago, but his personal character traits are as important today as they were then. Some would suggest that those traits are even more important today.
